I love the red star in the middle.  It just grabs me and pulls me into the mandala...which is what I'd want a mandala to do! I think I have the yellow, pink, orange and green color story exhausted now...will probably move into an new combination next time around.  Until then...Enjoy the warm hues and happiness of color!

I surprise myself with my color combinations, because even as recent as a year ago, I wouldn't be this bold and bright (and loud) with color.  Now, I just do it...what's going to happen? Nothing!  I just move on to the next one and color it with a completely new set of colors.   Starting in the center I just pick up hues that feel right to me...somedays it's the blues and greens other days it's neutrals...well, actually it's never neutrals.  :-)  But today it's sunny yellow! Makes me just want to pack my bags and go to Jamaica...now.  Maybe I need a business trip! ha

I went to a great art show tonight!  I felt so inspired I wanted to come home and put more of my finished designs up on my website! I thought I wanted to fill in more of the background of this one...but, since I haven't yet...maybe it's done.  Enjoy a warm and sunny mandala on a cold winter day!

Usually I like to fill up every possible inch with lines and color, but today I am giving homage to a snowy background in honor of this beautiful winter day.   Keeping it simple today.

Someday I am going to contact a manufacturer of umbrellas...because I think these mandalas would be stunning in a functional application as well as a decorative one. Until then, I'll keep creating them in all color-ways for all moods.  Definitely feeling bold and brave today! To think in college when I was studying fabric design my friend, a painter,  often said my colors were "whited out".  He was right.  I put white in everything because I was timid with color in my teens and early twenties....not anymore!

I am so happy to be back at my drafting table creating in this wonderful new year.  As much as I love Christmas and tell myself that decorating a tree, and a house for Christmas is my "art"....It's not! And Christmas cookies aren't either.  :-) They are creative, and artful but it's not my mandalas.  I had so much fun making this design yesterday morning as the sun came up and started shining in my work room.  It was as if a wave of peace came over me, calming me and reassuring me...all is well.  I colored it today and just had such a happy and fun time with it.  Now that I see it here on my website, it reminds me of a snowy winter day (which indeed it is) with all the promise of Spring to come soon. Happy New Year! May 2014 be the best year of your life!

Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Jody Cooke and I am a designer living in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  I have been an artist in some form or another for over thirty years. My new passion is mandalas! Since I learned about them in January 2013, I have created over 1,500 (black and white) of these circular patterns and over 160 full color.  Some are very small and sketchy, most are 8 inches in diameter, currently I am creating on 24" x 18" paper (transitioning into a Lotus Mandala series as of summer 2017) and one is a 24 inch square acrylic mandala painting on canvas. Definitely not my preferred medium..but I gave it a try!
Making mandalas is the most rewarding creative endeavor of my career.  Each time I sit down to draw I am so excited to see what comes out on the paper.  I feel so fortunate to have found this expressive and spiritual porthole to reveal my true self.  Thank you for visiting my site.
